AFA Awards UA Fraternity & Sorority Life Excellence in Practice Award for Greek Assembly Hall

The University of Alabama’s Fraternity & Sorority Life community has been recognized by the Association of Fraternity/Sorority Advisors (AFA) with an Excellence in Practice Award honoring the impact of the Greek Assembly Hall. The award celebrates innovative, high-impact practices that strengthen campus communities by expanding access to resources and elevating service for students involved in Greek-letter organizations.

Opened to serve United Greek Council and National Pan-Hellenic Council organizations at UA, Greek Assembly Hall was designed as a centralized hub for to provide community and collaborative space for these groups. Meaningful input from students, staff and alumni guided the planning process. By intentionally aligning services and support, the facility helps chapters operate more effectively while ensuring students can easily connect with tools and programming that support their communities.

The Greek Assembly Hall enhances the day-to-day experience of students by offering flexible meeting and training spaces, staff support and shared resources. The facility promotes responsible organizational operations, collaboration and meaningful engagement across councils, while also serving as a gathering place for large-scale educational programs that promote service and leadership.

“For me, inclusion in practice within fraternity and sorority life means creating an environment where all of our councils have the support, access and opportunities they need to thrive,” said Brittany Jordan, assistant director in the Office of Fraternity & Sorority Life. “When students feel comfortable walking in, gathering, studying and connecting, it strengthens their sense of belonging.”

The Excellence in Practice Award demonstrates UA’s commitment to continuous improvement in fraternity and sorority life through intentional design, collaboration and a focus on practical outcomes that matter to students. These include access to shared space, consistent support and opportunities to build connections across organizations. Greek Assembly Hall has become a strong foundation for organizational excellence, drawing increased student engagement and support for shared initiatives.

“Collaboration is such a powerful tool,” Brittany said. “When students see a framework that supports shared use, shared responsibility and shared opportunity, engagement rises and the community strengthens.”
