The Alabama United Greek Council (UGC) is the governing body for the 10 special interest sororities and fraternities at The University of Alabama. Established on the UA campus in spring 2009, UGC exists to enable member organizations to share ideas and resources, promote mutual respect and equality, and provide a support network for students on campus.
Message from the President

Welcome to the United Greek Council! As the fastest growing council at the University of Alabama, the UGC offers a vibrant community of ten special-interest Greek sororities and fraternities. The UGC represents nearly 1,000 students across various fields of personal and professional interest, including STEM, law, business and music. While each chapter is unique, we are united by a shared commitment to community service, professional development and social engagement. Our council strives to promote the individuality and unique talents of each member, empowering them to thrive in their chosen career fields. As a member of two UGC organizations, I have experienced firsthand how this community fosters both professional growth and personal connections. I am honored to serve as the council’s 2026 President, and I hope that you, too, find your home in the United Greek Council. Roll Tide and Go Greek!
Aydan Heilman, 2026 UGC President
How to Join
Each organization that encompasses the United Greek Council has an individual recruitment process. Depending upon the chapter, this process may be referred to as Recruitment, Membership Intake, or Rush. Each chapter’s process for taking new members varies by their specific needs and (inter)national requirements.

Building Community at Greek Assembly Hall
The Greek Assembly Hall at The University of Alabama serves as a community space for the United Greek Council (UGC), fostering a sense of unity across the UGC chapters. This gathering space, shared with the NPHC, hosts weekly chapter meetings and brotherhood or sisterhood events for all chapter members. The United Greek Council executive board hosts events such as the UGC Blood Drive, a semesterly call to service for all Greek community members, and the UGC Open house, which provides an inviting introduction to Greek life for both new and prospective members. Whether through leadership workshops, philanthropic initiatives, social mixers, or many other events, the Greek Assembly Hall continues to cultivate community among the chapters of the UGC.
