Serves as the coordinating body for 19 social sororities valuing sisterhood, scholarship, philanthropy, and service.

Serves as the coordinating body for 35 men’s social fraternities valuing brotherhood, scholarship, leadership, and community service.

National Pan-Hellenic Council

NPHC

Serves as the coordinating council for the 9 historically African American Greek organizations often referred to as the Divine Nine and committed to community service and supporting academic excellence of all members.

United Greek Council

UGC

Serves as the coordinating body for the 10 – special interest fraternities and sororities, enabling member organizations to share ideas and resources and providing a support network for students on campus.

Expansion Information

Any social sorority or fraternity organization wishing to start a colony or new chapter at the University of Alabama must:

• Follow the Extension/Expansion Policy as outlined in the Fraternity and Sorority Policy.
• Receive a written invitation from the University to join the UA Greek community before beginning extension, colonization, and/or recruitment efforts.

Should an organization or student(s) acting on behalf of an organization not adhere to this policy, the organization will be considered an unrecognized student organization and will not be able to petition to affiliate membership in the respective council and OFSL for 4 years.
